Sometimes that lake got angry
As the lightnin' went and crashed
Sometimes it was so still
It looked like a sheet of glass
But it washed away our beer cans,
And it washed away our sins
It talked us out of all our clothes
And begged us to jump in
There was magic in the summer water
Learned to swim in the summer water
All the small town sons and daughters
Were baptized a thousand times
Built fire by it like an altar
Gave it every song we could offer
Memories float on it like a bobber
Out there on the summer water
